Danny’s Chat

Last week I had the pleasure of joining in a 48 hr film festival. It was a horror/sci-fi theme in DC. It was a fantastic gauntlet of concepting, shooting, and post production.

I joined the team “We have this” and producer Sarah Olscamp pulled together a fantastic team. Screenwriter Douglas Ryan hammered out a script until 4 am.

Directed by Alonzo Crawford, a true artist and 30 year teacher at Howard, we raced against the clock.

Erin Scales and I shot this project thru the day, doubling up our coverage most of the day. She also shot set photos between takes. We stuck to mostly Rominon primes and shot on BMCC Pocket 6K and Sony a6300 camera.

Pulling into post the following day Madison Bischof cut this project on DaVinci Resolve, using Blackmagic Cloud. Using this we were able to work on the project simultaneously. She was able to assemble scenes while I color corrected and did VFX. We were able to squeak the project under the wire with less than a minute left. It was a real nail bitter.

I loved the experience and definitely took some time to recover. I’m excited for the next project and to see this baby in a theater on Oct. 29th.

If anyone else has worked on a 48 please share in the comments. I’d love to hear the war stories.
